Seit der Erfindung der Dampfmaschine hat sich das Umfeld stark ver\u00e4ndert. Waren qualmende Schornsteine fr\u00fcher ein Zeichen f\u00fcr eine florierende Industrie, sind sie heute aus Gr\u00fcnden des Umweltschutzes verp\u00f6nt und aus dem Alltag verschwunden. Sieht jemand aus der Ferne eine Rauchwolke, wird sofort die Feuer-wehr alarmiert, die dann nicht selten auf eine qualmende, kohlegefeuerte Dampflokomotive trifft.<\/p>\n<p>Not only has the environment evolved, but technology has also advanced since the invention of the steam engine. The aim of DLM's modern steam developments is to make the best use of these new possibilities for steam traction.<\/p>\n<p>From a technical point of view, new steam locomotives and steam engines are superior to modernisations because the latter always require compromises that can be avoided when constructing all-new locomotives. However, modernisations allow existing vehicles to remain in service under the current conditions. Some of the steam locomotives we have modernised in this way are presented below.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tDampflokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik DLM: 52 8055\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/52-8055-DLM_11.9.04_0006.jpg\" alt=\"52\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"549\" width=\"824\" title=\"52 8055 DLM_11.9.04_0006\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>Die moderne Technik erlaubt es, Dampflokomotiven und Dampfmaschinen zu bauen, die viel wirtschaftlicher, \u00f6kologischer und leistungsf\u00e4higer sind als ihre traditionellen Vorfahren. In der Regel lohnen sich neue Konstruktionen, aber es gibt auch Gr\u00fcnde f\u00fcr &#8222;sanfte&#8220; Revisionen. Die so erzielbaren Verbesserungen sind von der originalen Konstruktion und vom Grad der Modifikationen abh\u00e4ngig. Die folgenden Verbesserungen k\u00f6nnen f\u00fcr Umbauten empfohlen werden:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Light oil-firing - &gt; very clean combustion, higher efficiency, shorter preparation time, no waste<\/li>\n<li>Roller bearings - &gt; less servicing, less maintenance, less rolling resistance<\/li>\n<li>Better insulation - &gt; saves energy, shortens preparation time<\/li>\n<li>Internal streamlining - &gt; more power at high speeds, improved efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Improved balancing - &gt; better riding quality, higher speed possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Light-oil firing is recommended for ease of operation and cleanest combustion. However, steam locomotives are capable of handling most fuels and in many countries, it is more economical to use coal or biomass. Big improvements are possible with conversion to the gas producer combustion system. This gives a cleaner combustion with reduced smoke, higher efficiency and more power.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/52-8055-DLM_12-09-04_0007red.jpg\" alt=\"52 8055 DLM_12-09-04_0007red\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"175\" width=\"622\" title=\"52 8055 DLM_12-09-04_0007red\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n<h2>\n\t\tBrig\u2013Visp-Zermatt-bahn: HG 2\/3 Nr. 7 &#8222;Breithorn&#8220;\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Matterhorn_Gotthard-Bahn-1.jpg\" alt=\"Matterhorn_Gotthard Bahn-1\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"343\" width=\"492\" title=\"Matterhorn_Gotthard Bahn-1\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>Diese meterspurige Zahnrad- und Adh\u00e4sionsdampf-lokomotive wurde mit Kohlefeuerung nur noch sehr selten eingesetzt. Dies \u00e4nderte nach dem Umbau auf Leicht\u00f6l-feuerung, weil dies den Betrieb vereinfacht und zuverl\u00e4ssiger macht. Wegen des historischen Wertes der Lok wurde auf eine weitergehende Modernisierung verzichtet. Das hiess allerdings, dass die bescheidene Geschwindigkeit nicht erh\u00f6ht werden konnte. Weil es schwierig wurde, im dichten Fahrplan eine f\u00fcr Passagiere akzeptable L\u00fccke ohne lange Wartezeiten zu finden, wurde Lok &#8222;Breithorn&#8220; zur Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke transferiert.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tVitznau-Rigi Railway: H 1\/2 No. 7\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Vitznau-Rigi-Bahn-Nr.-7.jpg\" alt=\"Vitznau - Rigi Bahn Nr. 7\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"633\" width=\"523\" title=\"Vitznau - Rigi Bahn Nr. 7\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>In 1873 the Swiss Locomotive &amp; Machine Works SLM in Winterthur built its first locomotive, the standard gauge rack steam locomotive No. 7. To mark the 125th anniversary of the SLM and the Vitznau-Rigi railway, the unique steam locomotive No. 7 was restored and put back into service in 1996. Although the overhaul was carried out as true to the original as possible, the condition, operating requirements and current regulations made a new boiler and even a new engine necessary. (With the original drive it was not possible to drive over points). The coal firing system was retained.<\/p>\n<p>After two successful summer seasons with daily service on the Vitznauer and Arther lines, the unique steam locomotive No. 7 was returned to the Swiss Museum of Transport (VHS) in Lucerne. The steam trains of the Mount Rigi Railways are carried by the newer steam locomotives No. 16 and 17. However, because steam locomotive No. 7 was placed in the VHS in working order retaining its new drive, it can easily be returned to service on further anniversaries.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tRh\u00e4tische Bahn und Club 1889: g 3\/4 Nr. 11 &#8222;Heidi&#8220;\u00a0\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The metre-gauge steam locomotive G 3\/4 No. 11 built in 1903 by SLM Winterthur was used by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) until 1977. In 1952 it made a short appearance in the Swiss Heidi film and since then it proudly bears this name on the smokebox door. After a short period with the model railway friends Eiger Zweil\u00fctschinen (MEFEZ) she was acquired by the society \"Club 1889\" in 2000. From 2005 to 2015 it was extensively overhauled and modernised by DLM Ltd, RhB and Club 1889. The DLM supplied a new welded boiler with superheater and clean, spark-free light oil firing, new pistons and flat slides, the RhB overhauled the running gear and the members of the 1889 Club overhauled the other parts.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/rhb-g-3_4-11_samedan_foto-christian-ticar_web.jpg\" alt=\"rhb g 3_4 11_samedan_foto christian ticar_web\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"466\" width=\"600\" title=\"rhb g 3_4 11_samedan_foto christian ticar_web\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n<h2>\n\t\tBorkumer Kleinbahn, deutschland: DAmpflok &#8222;Borkum&#8220;\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Borkumer-Kleinbahn-Deutschland.jpg\" alt=\"Borkumer-Kleinbahn-Deutschland\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"519\" width=\"740\" title=\"Borkumer-Kleinbahn-Deutschland\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>This small steam locomotive works regularly on the 900 mm gauge line on the island of Borkum. Thanks to light oil firing and electric preheating, the operation is very clean, which is mandatory there, as the train runs right through the middle of the village, similar to a tram. The outward appearance remained unchanged, but the steam locomotive also received a new welded boiler with superheater.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tPuffing Billy Railway, Australian: Na-class No. 14 A\u00a0\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/20180222_095752_Puffing-Billy_14A-oil-fired-8A_2018_02_22_Photo-Roger-Waller_1600Hero_Roger_Edit_.jpg\" alt=\"20180222_095752_Puffing Billy_14A (oil-fired) + 8A_2018_02_22_Photo Roger Waller_1600Hero_Roger_Edit_\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"754\" width=\"1600\" title=\"20180222_095752_Puffing Billy_14A (oil-fired) + 8A_2018_02_22_Photo Roger Waller_1600Hero_Roger_Edit_\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>Die weltber\u00fchmte, in der N\u00e4he von Melbourne gelegene Touristenbahn mit dem sympathischen Namen &#8222;Puffing Billy&#8220; ist mit j\u00e4hrlich mehr als 500&#8217;000 Passagieren (vor Corona) eine der erfolgreichsten Ausflugsbahnen \u00fcberhaupt. Obwohl Melbourne nachgesagt wird, dass die vier Jahreszeiten durchaus an einem Tag stattfinden k\u00f6nnen, gibt es oft l\u00e4ngere Trockenzeiten mit grosser Waldbrandgefahr. Wegen des Funkenfluges d\u00fcrfen die kohlengefeuerten Dampflokomotiven dann nicht fahren.
