{"id":8306,"date":"2020-04-14T03:50:21","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T03:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.dlm-ag.ch\/?page_id=8306"},"modified":"2020-08-27T13:59:24","modified_gmt":"2020-08-27T11:59:24","slug":"new-steamship-engines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/en\/new-steamship-engines\/","title":{"rendered":"New steamship engines"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\n\t\tnew steam engines for ships\n\t<\/h2>\n<h3>\n\t\tschaufelraddampfer &#8222;Montreux&#8220; mit neuer, fernbedienter 650 kW-schiffsdampfmaschine\n\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>Between 1933 and 1977, the Compagnie G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Navigation sur le Lac L\u00e9man (CGN) equipped six paddle steamers with diesel-electric propulsion to rationalise their operation. In particular, the two machinists could be made redundant. The steam engines, which were attractive to passengers, were scrapped, and the previously balanced classical ship architecture was also affected by an unfashionable modernisation (see picture).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/montreux-diesel-elektrisch.jpg\" alt=\"montreux diesel-elektrisch\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"421\" width=\"651\" title=\"montreux diesel-elektrisch\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>In 1996 four diesel-electric paddlers were still in operation, but all components of their drive were now beyond economic repair. SLM\/DLM proposed to convert these once beautiful paddle ships back to their former glory, including of course a re-conversion to steam, which makes all the difference to an ordinary motor vessel. A new fully automatic boiler and as a novelty on Swiss lakes, a remote-controlled steam engine would allow to operate these paddle steamers without additional crew members, thereby ensuring its economic operation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/montreux-prfstan.jpg\" alt=\"montreux prfstan\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"576\" width=\"835\" title=\"montreux prfstan\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>Vor dem Einbau in die &#8222;Montreux&#8220; wurde die gesamte Dampfanlage exakt auf dem Pr\u00fcfstand aufgebaut und ausf\u00fchrlich getestet. Die im Lastenheft geforderte Nennleistung von 650 kW bei 51 \/min. wurde mit 761 kW \u00fcbertroffen, womit jedoch keineswegs die Grenzleistung erreicht worden war. Mit R\u00fccksicht auf die neuen Lager wurde die Maschine auf dem Pr\u00fcfstand aber nicht h\u00f6her belastet.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dlm-ag.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/montreux-dampfmaschine.jpg\" alt=\"montreux dampfmaschine\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"367\" width=\"532\" title=\"montreux dampfmaschine\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t<p>Steam engines run smoothly and silently even under full load, enabling an open galley to watch the engine perform.
